Last Christmas, like a lot of other people, my family and I had Covid – thankfully we came through it OK, I know that a lot of others weren’t so fortunate.
If you’re anything like me, I feel a bit more pressure this year to make it special. This means that I’m conscious of the fact that I know I’m at risk from my own higher than normal expectations. Pressure can cause stress which means that we’re more prone to an ‘amygdala hijack’ where certain events can cause an emotional response which we may in turn result in conflict and regret later.
So when the kids complain that there are no batteries, or the ‘outlaws’ don’t know when to leave or your partner brings up ‘that Christmas’ again, just stop. Ask yourself the following questions before you say anything;
Does this need to be said?
Does this need to be said by me?
Does this need to be said by me now?
To all, please have a safe & very happy Christmas.
